It all started with the dream of Mr. J.D. Bishop to have a radio station in Thomasville. That dream became a reality over fifty years ago. Mr. Bishop thought that the station should have his name, and now you know where our station got the call letters, WJDB. Those first years were filled with doing what has become a trademark of this station until the present time, entertaining our listeners in southwest Alabama and serving our client base.
WJDB still has the original control board seen in the picture plus the original tube type RCA BTA-IMX transmitter. Though no longer in service, we have kept it operational over the years, and from time to time, turn it on and allow our listeners to enjoy the unique sound of a tube type transmitter.
Two of the early members of the staff were Johnny McDonald and Virgil Moore. Both of these gentlemen held political office, with "Johnny Mac", as he was known on the air, serving as mayor of Thomasville, and Virgil Moore, with the on-air name of "Possum Moore", being a member of the city council.
